Game Day Protocols
Game Day Protocols
- Referees should generally show up 30 minutes prior to kickoff, although that is difficult sometimes if they are refereeing multiple games.
- Ideally each team should give 2 game sheets to the referee, which the referee can use to check players in. Some referees are stringent about checking cards, but with digital cards, this is less of an issue, so focus on the game sheets which are most important. After the match the referee should return one of the completed opponents’ game sheets to each team.
- Home team provides 3 game balls
- Home club is responsible for the condition of the fields (including goals, nets and corner flags), although we recommend each team carry some zip ties to make last minute net repairs. All goals should have sandbags or weights on them – some referees will be inflexible on this point, some will be more lenient if the goals are sturdy – be prepared either way.
- No piercings, watches or jewelry of any kind. No tape over earrings is allowed, even if the piercings are brand new; this question is on the referee exam every year, and is supposed to be enforced.
Please notify your players now so there aren’t any broken hearts or enraged parents on game day. - Head Injuries – if a player is suspected of a head injury, the referee must not allow them back into the game. It is a coach responsibility to ensure any players with potential head injuries are evaluated and cleared by a medical professional.
